Renovation of an indoor/outdoor entertainment area for a Balmain terrace house.

The design brief for this project in Balmain was to link the indoor living area with an undercover outdoor entertaining area. Carebuild’s solution was to completely underpin the back wall of the three storey terrace (a span of five metres).  A structural engineer was engaged to design steel columns and steel beams to support the two floors and roof above. Frameless glass stacking doors were installed along the back of the house, with uniform tiling inside and out to give the area a seamless finish.

A commercial-style cooking facility with two custom-built stainless steel drawers was installed, with the surround tiled in Stackstone to give it a natural and modern feel. The result is a beautiful and stylish entertaining area with a large dining table that can seat 14 people comfortably for indoor/outdoor dinner parties.

Renovated to meticulous standards, this impeccable entertainer is a sumptuous blend of 1920s charm and modern style. The cleverly conceived open plan indoor/outdoor design is perfect for families and set to a flourishing leafy backdrop that offers both privacy and beautifully filtered light. High ceilings, timber floors, picture rails and a full brick construction have been lovingly preserved to ensure an historic ambience.

Construction of a Federation style garden flat in Hurlstone Park.

The owners of a spectacular Federation house in Hurlstone Park briefed Carebuild to design and build a one bedroom garden flat to accommodate their mother, in keeping with the architecture of the main house. The owners had also sourced an original old leadlight window for the cottage and a hand-turned roof finial that had been made by their late father, both of which they wanted to be incorporated into the design.

The design complied with the development provisions in the NSW Government’s State Environmental Planning Policy 2009 (AHSEPP), which greatly sped up the approval process. The project was completed on schedule and under budget.

Renovation of a 1960s free-standing home.

This original 1960s brick home was T-shaped and had very small living rooms. Carebuild’s design brief was to open the house up and integrate the interior living space with the house’s beautiful leafy exterior setting.

Carebuild installed structural beams in the roof space, which allowed the removal of internal walls, turning four separate rooms into one large open plan living area. The rear wall and part of the side wall were replaced with bi-fold doors that open completely, merging the indoor space with a new outdoor entertaining deck, accentuating the light and airy interior of the house.
